Paléosite

35,000 years ago in Saint-Césaire used to live Pierrette, a young Neanderthal woman whose remains were discovered in 1979. The Paléosite, opened in 2005, focuses on her discovery and remains currently one of the most advanced museographic centers in the world. This interpretation center is one of the most modern Prehistory museums in the world. Equipped with the latest technologies, the Paleosite offers you the opportunity to meet Neanderthal in a covered and air-conditioned space of 2000 m2 with a 20-hectare natural and wooded park. The program includes: - 3 cinematic rooms, 3 interactive rooms, projections on large screens, quiz, Neanderthal & sapiens comparative station, life-size prehistoric animals. - "In the footsteps of Pierrette": a unique experience in virtual reality where the visitors play a Neanderthal woman and find themselves a place in the clan of hunter-gatherers. - The Paleosite will also host the traditional prehistoric weapons shooting championship with around 200 participants (amateurs, enthusiasts or families) over two days. New in 2022: " Prehistoric Pirogue Operation ", a new event on prehistoric navigation ! Visitors will be able to take part in the fabrication of a Neolithic pirogue using the methods of the time! They will also be able to take part in the daily activities: fire lighting and flint knapping demonstration, visit of the archaeological site of La Roche à Pierrot, throwing of sagaies with a propeller, prehistoric art workshop.
