Amphithéâtre Gallo-Romain

Discover 2000 years of history with an emblematic site in Saintes. Imagine the gladiators in the arena of the gallo-romain amphitheater, built before the Collosseum of Rome ! Built under the reign of Tiberius and completed under the reign of Claudius in the year 40, the amphitheater is characterized by a cavea (set of steps) propped upon the flanks of the dale and on an embankment at the west. On the eastern side, structures made entirely of bricks close the dale. Dimensions: 126 by 102 meters.
