35,000 years ago in Saint-Césaire used to live Pierrette, a young Neanderthal woman whose remains were discovered in 1979. The Paléosite, opened in 2005, focuses on her discovery and remains currently one of the most advanced museographic centers in the world. The Paléosite takes you on an incredible journey back in time, to discover prehistory and our origins. Who are we? Where do we come from? Come and enjoy an extraordinary experience as you meet Neanderthals and Sapiens. Learn about fire-lighting techniques, flint knapping and prehistoric hunting, not forgetting the not-to-be-missed guided tour of the world-famous archaeological site where Pierrette, the Neanderthal, was discovered. An interactive and educational museum area, reconstructions of prehistoric habitats and animals: come and enjoy an outing dedicated to knowledge and fun in a protected natural setting. The average visit lasts 3 to 4 hours. Restaurant and picnic area on site. La Broche à Pierrot restaurant serves simple, hearty dishes made with local produce, sure to delight the taste buds of young and old alike!
